Don\'t Drink and SearchSigns similar to this one can be seen all over the country on various roadways. Most of us would agree that it is foolish to drink and drive. However, many people absentmindedly perform searches online without taking any thought of what they are doing. Although it is not illegal to search without knowing what you are doing, it can waste a lot of time.

When you look at the over 500 ways that Googlers have misspelled Britney Spears’ name, you may think that they were under the influence when they searched. Perhaps they weren’t, however a great lesson can be learned from viewing those 500 misspelled names — If you take the time to make sure you are submitting a quality search, you will reap quality results.

If you follow the suggestions below, you will have a higher success rate in your searches.

  1. To start off, you should carefully think about what you want to find on the internet.
  2. Next, try to think of keywords that the page you are looking for contains.
  3. Avoid asking Google questions. Google searches pages for the keywords you type in. For example, if you type in “How many types of apples exist?”, you will find pages with all six of those words. But, if you simply enter, “types of apples”, you will more than likely hone in on the answer to your question.
  4. Don’t be ambiguous. Let’s suppose that you want to learn more about how pistons work in a car. If you search for “pistons”, Google returns sites about the Detroit Pistons, JE Pistons, and the Pistons Bar. Nothing on the first page even sparks your interest. A better idea might be to search for “pistons car”. Upon searching for that, you can easily find out what the function of a piston is.
