Google Calculator: An Overview of How to Use Google as a Calculator
Have you ever gotten lost in the Windows Start Menu looking for the too hard to find calculator program? Search no more!
One of Google’s most cherished hidden features is known as Google Calculator. On the outside, it doesn’t appear too fancy, any old search box will do. However, once you start typing in complex mathematical equations, you can begin to understand the powerful nature of Google Calculator.
Using Google Calculator is fairly straight-forward. All you have to do is type in an equation into the search box, and Google will do the rest.
For example, you could enter 2 + 2 into any Google search box and Google will tell you the answer! In case you’re wondering what the answer is, check out the shot below to see the calculator in all its glory.
The Google Calculator can also perform subtraction, multiplication, and division. Go ahead, try it!
- For addition, just enter the numbers with a plus sign between them, for example: 5 + 22 + 10
- For subtraction, just enter the numbers with a minus sign between them, like: 63 - 42
- For multiplication, just enter the numbers with either an asterisk or the letter x between them, the following format will work: 4 * 2 x 2 with either an x or asterisk.
- For division, enter the numbers with a forward slash between them, like: 8 / 2
Keep in mind that the numbers don’t have to have a space between them and the symbol, but they can. Google isn’t too picky when it comes to mathematics.
If you really want to test the calculator’s limits, you can try spelling out your query. For example, if you type out the following into a Google search box:
nineteen plus twenty four divided by six times pi
Google will tell you the answer, which comes out to be 31.5663706. You may want to check the math, just to be sure!
In fact, if you just type in pi, Google will
Simple math isn’t all that Google Calculator can do. Check back tomorrow as we dive in a little deeper and see what other things Google Calculator is capable of!
