There’s No Reason To Use Any Website’s Search Engine

At the top of most websites, including this one, you can usually find a box that says something similar to “Search This Site.” However, there’s just one little problem — it’s too complex. You may not think that typing a few words into a search box can be very complex, but believe me, it is.

First of all, with a variety of websites, comes a variety of different types of search algorithms. With googlers that are used to searching a certain way, this can be a sobering experience. If you enter a few keywords, you don’t know if the search engine will put more weight on the first keyword or ignore certain shorter keywords. There’s also a myriad of other things that the search engine could do to mess up your results.

Next, they all have different styles of results pages. You may be thinking that I think you’re not very bright, I mean what kind of person can’t figure out how to read search results that are formatted differently? True, you can figure it out. However, it takes time. It may take only a few seconds, but those seconds begin to add up. If you consistently use one search engine, you will end up searching faster and discovering your results more efficiently.

Here’s one of the best search tips I can provide — Use Google to search websites! It’s easy! All you have to do is type “site:[the website address] your keywords” into any Google search box.

For example, if you wanted to search CNN.com for flooding, you would format your search like the one below.  If you’re adventurous, you can even click on “Search” and you will see the search results for flooding on CNN.
