How to Remove Your Name, Phone Number, and Address from the Google Phonebook

Written by: Tom · July 17, 2008 at 10:00 am · Category: Google Phonebook

Many people are uncomfortable when they find out that anyone online can just type their ten digit phone number into any Google search box and find their name and address.

While all of this information is publicly available through libraries and phonebooks, the way that Google has automated their white pages and reverse phone directory is considered to be an invasion of privacy to some internet users.

For example, if you type in the following phone number (blurred for privacy reasons), Google tells you the owner’s name, address, and even offers to give you a map with directions to their home.

How to Remove Your Name from Google’s Phonebook

First, try typing in your phone number to make sure that your name is listed in Google’s massive phone directory.

Next, all you have to do is head on over to Google’s Phonebook Removal Request Page (opens in new window).

You will see the following form:

After entering in your information exactly as it appears in Google’s phonebook, click on the Submit Form button.

You should then be transferred to a confirmation page similar to this one:

No Turning Back

After going through this process, you will never be able to add your phone number again to Google’s search database. On their removal page, they say that once it is deleted, the deletion is permanent.

Is This the Best Way?

While this method does remove your name and number from Google’s phone book, your name and phone number will still be available in other online directories.

If you are really concerned about your phone number being visible online, you need to contact your phone company and make your phone number unlisted and unpublished.

I would like my name removed from the google map and google earth. I filled the form out and sent it to you today. Will this request remove my name from the craigs list postings/google map? Thank you , kevin

    Hi Kevin,

The form was sent to Google and will remove you from the Google White Pages, including your address that is associated from Google Maps.

This will not remove your name from Craigslist postings, but your name shouldn’t be there unless someone is explicitly putting your name in the Craigslist postings.

    Good luck!

I don’t know why everyone thinks that this is such a big deal. If you have an unlisted number, then you won’t be on the Google results.

My parents number has always been listed in the phonebook and it is on Google. If someone really wants to track you down, they will find you. Its not like taking your name off Google will make you invisible.

there are private investigators that can find anyone anywhere. You can find sites online that do this. I don’t think that having your name on or off Google really makes a difference at all.

Please, could you remove my name, Address, phone number. If private investigators, find, so be it, but please, remove my information for now. More so my address! PLEASE!

    Thank you…

I have the detailes including adress and whatever else is needed too promote this as a Priorty..

  13. Tom on March 20th, 2009 7:59 pm

Hi TomBravo – I sent you an email detailing how you can remove yourself from Google’s phonebook.

As to the terrorist threats, I can’t stop those, but hopefully no new terrorists will be calling since your phone number will soon be out of Google’s Whitepages.

Unfortunately, you can’t remove your house from Google Streetview since the images that Streetview has archived are easily accessible to any human by simply walking down your street. However, if you live on a private road, you may have a good case against Google.

Good luck with everything. We are sorry about the divorce.

So leme get this straight no matter what when her side of the family press’s a single click they can basically Profile a Bird’s Eye view regardles ? I thouight I could just hide It I dont mind they preserving the right too know where I reside now but Do They really have too see pic’s ? I just want too hide the photo details please Do So ASAP! and I Thank you very Kindly, Tom

  15. Tom on March 20th, 2009 8:21 pm

    @TomBravo

Unfortunately, there are many sites that have indexed satellite images, as well as “bird’s eye view” images of every piece of land in the United States. Since it is all publicly viewable, it probably would be hard to get it all removed.

You can try contacting Google Earth and Microsoft Virtual Earth, but I’m not sure if they will do anything. Good luck though, and let us know if anything does come of it, that would be fabulous!

This is interesting — Google has been forced to remove a lot of images of streetview in the United Kingdom. So, if TomBravo is from there, maybe he could get them all removed.
