Using Google to Perform a Reverse Phone Number Lookup

Have you ever seen a number on your caller id and wondered who it was that was calling?  Google makes it easy to find out who a given number belongs to.  Google is capable of playing the part of a reverse phone directory.  Just type in the number and Google will tell you who the number belongs to as well as the owner’s address.

If you’d like, you can even see a map to where the person lives, as Google provides a Map link right after displaying the information.

Using Google as a Reverse Phone Directory

As with Google’s other phonebook features, there are a couple of limitations:

  1. If the number is unlisted, then Google is unable to display the name of the owner and it will just show you a normal page of search results.
  2. If the number is a cell phone number, then Google also is unable to show you the owner’s name.

If you do end up typing in ten digits and Google is unable to find a match in its phonebook, then it will simply return webpages that contain that string of numbers.  This happens when you type in the phone number 412-555-5555, as shown below:
