View an Interactive Graph of the Dow Jones Industrial Average Using Google

With all of the publicity the stock market has received in the last six months, I really wanted to see how far the Dow Jones Industrial Average has fallen in the past six months.  As you will find out below, the Dow Jones recently hit a 12 year low in the past week.

Fortunately, Google makes it easy to view a graph of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, as well as other stock indices.  You can also view graphs for individual stocks.

How to Use Google to Find a Graph of the Dow Jones Industrial Average

To view a graph of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, all you have to do is type dji into Google.  Google brings up a page of results showing you the current stock price and a graph of today’s activity, as shown below:

Recently, someone asked if Google can give you directions from one continent to another.  They tried getting directions from Berlin to New York.  Unfortunately, when you do this, Google tells you that it can’t calculate directions:

How many times have you come across a webpage that you want to read, but can’t because it is written in a language you don’t understand?

Google knows a lot of languages.  You can easily put Google to work translating any web page for you.  Let’s say I want to learn about some current events in Brazil, and I want to get my news directly from a Brazilian website.  I went to the webpage of Globo, a popular media outlet in Brazil.  After a few clicks, I ended up finding this article:

How to Stop Search Results from Automatically Appearing Below the Google Search Bar

How many times have been at Google’s homepage typing something when all of the sudden a bunch of distracting search results pop up right below where you’re typing?  To some users, Google’s Auto Suggest features is useful.  However, other users find it extremely distracting.

A reader, Karen, recently wrote in asking how to turn this feature off.  I sent her an email, detailing what she needed to do.  I have provided the instructions below, so you can turn it off as well.

First of all, here is an example of Google’s Auto Suggest feature in action below.  All I did was type in “I am extre” before I hesitated.  Sure enough, Google automatically fetched some related results.
